What Can You Do to Reverse Your Biological Age at Home?

You don’t need a clinic to start working on your biological age. The daily habits below are the foundation everything else is built on – including what we do at BAR Labs.

Does sleep affect biological age?

Sleep is when the body does much of its repair work. Aging research consistently links short, poor, or irregular sleep with markers of faster biological aging. The at-home version is unglamorous but powerful: a consistent bedtime, 7 to 9 hours, a dark cool room, and no screens at the end of the night.

Can exercise move the number?

Physical activity is one of the most studied factors in healthy aging – and the easiest place to start is walking. A daily walk costs nothing, needs no equipment, and research links higher daily step counts with slower aging markers; somewhere around 7,000 to 8,000 steps a day is a reasonable target for most people, and more is fine. Build on that with resistance training to preserve muscle and some cardio that raises your heart rate. You don’t need extremes – consistency beats intensity.

What about what you eat?

No single food reverses aging, despite what the internet says. The patterns studied most in longevity research share the same bones: mostly plants, enough protein, minimal ultra-processed food and added sugar, and not overeating. Alcohol works against you – less is better.

Does stress really age you?

Chronic stress leaves measurable fingerprints on the body. Managing it isn’t a luxury – breathwork, time outdoors, real social connection, and protecting time away from work all count. So does cutting the one habit that ages people fastest: smoking.

Is there a catch?

Just one: without measuring, you’re guessing. You can do everything above and never know whether it’s working. That’s the difference between following habits and running a protocol – a baseline number, a plan, and a retest. At BAR Labs, that means epigenetic biological age testing with results reviewed by David Soria, M.D., and a physician-managed protocol built on top of the foundation you control at home.
